John Higgs recently stood down from chairing the Friends of Hollingbury & Burstead Woods group after 9 years due to ill health. He joined the group in 1996 so has been a member for 19 years. John previously worked for the Forestry Commission so has a wealth of knowledge about trees and woodland management. He has been responsible for keeping the groups’ tools in order and will continue to take on light tasks at the group’s monthly work sessions. He is also known for making excellent home-made cakes for group meetings!
The group thanked John for his many years of tireless volunteering. He was given a gift of art materials and a book on how to paint as he is taking up painting as a hobby. John is pictured with some of his gifts alongside the current FHBW committee members (left to right:) Judy Richardson, Lesley Brown, John Higgs, Peter Jarman, Brenda Pollack, Adrian Peasgood, Gill Taylor
