Hosts in the area who are willing to become trained mentors for young people aged 16-21 are being sought by Barnardo’s South Coast Lodgings.
Supported Lodgings placements are a stepping stone to independence for young people at risk of homelessness, leaving the care system, asylum seekers and refugees. Supported Lodgings Hosts provide practical support – for example helping young people how to cook, budget and apply for jobs/training. They alos provide emotional support with a view to increasing their confidence, resilience and readiness to move on to other accommodation and towards independence. Supported lodgings creates a safe family environment to support young people through crucial transition period into adulthood.
So far the project has supported over 20 young people to find a stable home to practice life skills that will prevent homelessness in the future.
