On Wednesday 29th October over 40 Hollingdean residents came to the Community Centre to tell Mike Best, from Brighton and Hove Buses, their views about changes to the 50 bus service. This followed a meeting in August, before the changes took place, when people told Mr Best how the changes were likely to affect them.
Buses are now reduced to four an hour and no longer go to Brighton Station, except early morning. Two of these buses do a long detour to Falmer to serve the universities.
It was clear that a lot of the residents fears have been realised. Journey times are taking far longer and passengers often have to change buses. We heard from residents who had lost money as they are consistently late for work. We were also told of overcrowding on the buses going to Churchill Square and young families with pushchairs unable to get on them. However the buses going to Falmer seem to have plenty of spaces.
Mike Best promised to take on board these concerns when drawing up the Spring 2015 timetable changes. He has also agreed to come back to another meeting before those changes are finalised.
